Required vaccines for nursery and school: what parents should know
Last checked: November 2026
What the rules require
Certain vaccinations are required for a child to attend a group setting in France, unless there is a recognised medical contraindication. The applicable requirements depend, among other things, on the child's date of birth. Check the official rules rather than a fixed list: Service Public — vaccination.
What proof should you prepare?
Settings generally request proof of required vaccinations. Vaccination entries in the booklet can serve as a certificate when dated and signed, with the vaccinating professional's name and address: Service Public — health booklet.
Ask the nursery or school which document to provide. If an entry is missing or illegible, contact the healthcare professional for proof. Do not send the whole health booklet for a simple vaccination-proof request: it contains confidential information.
Where can you check the schedule?
Consult Vaccination Info Service — babies and children and the Service Public page. Ask the doctor what applies to your child; this guide does not determine whether their vaccinations are up to date.
Finding your notes with Carnet vivant
Carnet vivant is a personal tool for parents. You choose which pages to upload and check every entry against the original before confirming it. An export helps you find your notes; it does not replace a certificate issued by a healthcare professional or the official booklet.
